In this session, we'll talk about three cloud services. The cloud is becoming difficult to distinguish between types of service delivery, but it can be categorized into three main categories.
From now on, we will learn about the three definitions, strengths and weaknesses.
1. SaaS (Software as a Service)
: A form of providing the functions of software used in work as a service as necessary through a network such as the Internet.
Ex) One e-mail server shared across multiple enterprises – designed to be separated by enterprise users for security
※ Benefits of SaaS
- Software updates are performed from time to time by cloud performers. Stay up to date
- Service is available as soon as user accounts are ready (which can significantly reduce delivery time to deployment compared to software purchases)
- Because it is connected through the Internet, it can be accessed on the go or by a terminal such as a smartphone or tablet.
※ Disadvantages of SaaS
- Unable to use the service when the Internet is unavailable
- Security issues and ownership issues as data is stored in the cloud
* Deployment Software - Email, Groupware, Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
2. PaaS (Platform as a Service)
: It provides tools for software development, including operating systems, and tools for data analysis.
※ Benefits of PaaS
- The foundation can be used without infrastructure deployment and operational maintenance, enabling application development and service delivery in a short time
- High degree of freedom to use application
※ Disadvantages of PaaS
- Unable to set up detailed server and middleware
- Migrating to another environment (move to another) is difficult
3. IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
: A model that provides computing resources, such as CPU or hardware, as a service over a network.
Ex) Users can quickly add or remove resources at any time, using resources and capabilities such as servers, storage, and networks without having to own hardware
※ Benefits of IaaS
- Flexibility: Buy only the components you need and scale or shrink as needed
- Affordability: IaaS is an affordable option with low overhead and low maintenance costs. Pay only as much as you use as you pay utility bills
- Control: Users control the infrastructure.
※ Disadvantages of IaaS
- Service reliability: Performance and speed are largely dependent on the provider, and their software or hardware problems can affect the user's
- Ensure that the provider has a reliable reputation and resources to prevent and manage any security threats.
- Reduce the cost of purchasing your own hardware, maintenance costs
* A typical IaaS service is Amazon Elastic Compute cloud (EC2) provided by Amazon web service.
This time, we learned about three cloud services. For those who lack the concept of cloud, please refer to other posts.
